Rotten Tree....safe to climb ?

1 of 3 trees from a mornings work. Couldn't fall the tree without first cutting down several others. Diagonal fencing prevented also made it awkward. So I said I could take the tree down in sections.

This Fir Tree take down was for Alligator Creek Falling Ltd in Sooke B.C. The tree had extensive decay throughout the lower stem, a large cavity in the top quarter of the canopy and a prominent lean towards a house. A large section of the standing stem will be retained as a wildlife pole for the next 10 years at least. Thereafter it may be shortened a bit more. 2 of us completed the work by ear...

DANGER TREES - Are they worth more $$$ ?
Top video I do tree work in uk. You are a talented tree worker learn something every-time I watch keep up the excellent work and filming and editing too. Stay safe 👍🏻
You absolutely should be rewarded more...for more risk. Just good business.
10/10
Tremendous experience.
Hey Reg. Do you ever get annoyed by the clanging sound your steel balls make when you walk? 🍻
And to think I climb about 40-60 ft in air for hunting.. my balls twitch then.. i can only imagine if I ever (wont) get to this height like this dude. Mad respect Dude
I’m shocked that doesn’t damage the road
This is my 40th year in the forest and tree industry. I'm 67 and I absolutely love what I do. I really only climb spar type and use the lift for more complex trees.
How do you get the pitch off of your hands? Love your knowledge and videos on tree work thank you for sharing your experience
I don't make a point of getting the pitch off. It's not harmful or poisonous so I let it wash off on its through the following days.
Pure definition of keeping it real! Keep telling it like it is! I enjoy all of your awesome videos!! Thanks!!
I hope you don't mind if I like and comment anyway mate!
I wish you explained the rigging a little more. I'm an urban removal specialist and that's the skill in this job. Would of been nice to know your mindset on some of these lowers.
Impressive! This is why I watch hours of RUclips vids. You learn little tricks. I'm 23 years in 300 plus climbs a year. And the assist with a tip of a mid saw is a new one! Get a lighter bar bro save your shoulders! Keep up the quality content. Totally agree with only recording the actual tree jobs. Not just the time fillers.
Why are you killing that beautiful tree???
If you could actually be bothered to watch the video, or even read the description, you will get the answer.
Enjoy your content and experience I like your videos and you just the way you are , you have inspired me to do better thank you from Wisconsin
Stunning visuals, will be there in August to experience the magnificence that is Buttle Lake and Strathcona Park
а зачем спрашивается завалил как попало на землю и там резать уже
Fantastic
Any updates on this?
Yes, but I'm under contract so unable to be specific. Right now it's in the hands of the company who will produce it. Currently being tweaked while being put through testing protocol. I hope to have an entirely different product launched in late summer-fall, just not this one
No money would get me up there
$15 trillion dollars?
How do you climb so high with balls so large? 😂 This was absolutely wild to watch ❤
Amazing
No thank you!
Trees like that are nerve racking! Especially if you have to wait for traffic? Just being next to the road, and the wind coming up and all you want to do is get the top off! And You just need a break!
But when it comes down to the topic of the cost for the hazardous tree removal. Yes the more hazardous the tree is? the higher risk chance of injury to your body and or others on site and chance for damages that can occur? Meaning the most caution is used! And there is more time taken to clear away debris and if traffic is involved then you will have to take time to allow for the flow of cars? But that mainly falls on the main contractor's and shouldn't really involve you as an individual contractor except for allowing for traffic Under you?
I'm going to have to agree with the parable also. If you know what you are doing? knowledge is( king) as well as experience. And if you can read the tree based on the obvious factors! So long as you are aware that you are 100/150/200 feet up? and the weight force leverage will be working against you? Verses the weight reduction differences. Those are key factors plus if there is any wind? Non-negotiable! So now you can only work within those perameters! And every bit of my 45 plus years of knowledge and experience is in play here. And once you are up in the tops, you need to think about how much weight is pulling against the roots? So it would be best to reduce it as quickly as possible? The top foliage weight is a lever against the Roots, and the safest thing you can do, to get as much of the top off as possible. Because the higher up you are? Verses how much of a top you remove is crucial. And you do not want to take out a big top? All at once! Because it will leverage against the stump ? And depending on how much Rot is in the stump? This Will determine how much leverage it will have in the recoil (return) sway? When the top of a tree is falling off, it creates a push force against the cut portion of the remaining tree stump! This will generate a force against the stump. And if the stump is Rotten? And or a crack (split)? And when a bigger top is falling out, it will shift those forces to the stump! Which has been compromised due to the Rotted or cracked stump? This would be very traumatic for anyone who is up in the tree? This was based on a tree that is either dead with a Rotten or cracked trunk? And if the tree is 100 to 200 foot tall? Based on the tree's in the video.
That was...High.
The height doesn't get you it's the fall
What happens if you really really need to go to the bathroom?
There would have been sooooo much poop in my pants.
You don’t call another guy after that for the job
Wish i had your guts to climb like that. How many safety ropes did you have ?
The world needs you ,Reg. Therefore , do not jump off the bridge…..sound advice , plainly spoken.
man of man
feeet is stupid, just type in meters...
Felt so uneasy watching this!!
I thought you left some branches on incase of a fall?
So other than showing off, why did you cut that tree down?
Love your answers too these questions great philosophy 👍
Quiet communication, a bit of praise ,watching out for your mate , a lot of people should learn from that .really good stuff
Clear-cutting is a waste of capital - it destroys the young trees as well as the old ones.
Usually watch these when having a poo Reg. if you could keep them longer that’d be great! Good watch though 👍🏻
I did like that , from a fellow working at height man , from Macclesfield
Thanks Chris. Always nice to hear from a Macc lad
Bro, I just watched this on my TV and it was awesome. I know what it's like to work alone but I've never seen a tree that big here out east. Solid work man.
ive been looking for a thicker rope lanyard but 5/8 is the largest diameter i can find . do you just have to make your own using thicker rope or what ?
Why didn’t you negative rig them normally? I’ve blocked them down with attached zipline clip. Let the groundie “catch” the piece, then have the zipline tensioned to slide the piece out on.
Because there was just 2 of us, and it's no trouble for me to do the lowering part. I wanted Amber to stay down on the road where the logs were landing than have her coming back and forth
@@Recoates Gotcha. I’ve done exactly the same thing, except I used a port-a-wrap up too instead of the Stein. And for the same reason. Trying to keep my daughter down the hill to unclip the pieces. I couldn’t tell in the video that you didn’t have more help.
Such a Great Work!👏😎💪🤙 It was nice to watch how did you adapt to the new situations on the process and solved with patience and well taught skills.
Another win for the planet! Unfortunately I'm pretty sure it'll grow back in no time, we'd love to see you go back and take a cool video of you chopping the new one that pops up
Removing this rotten tree was part of a road widening project alone a short but particularly treacherous stretch of the highway between Port Alberni and Ucluelet, Vancouver Island. For years there had been multiple accidents due to collisions and falling rocks, including a very bad accident just prior to the project starting that resulted in the death of 2 on-call paramedics. Much easier to ask a question in the comments instead of guessing on a situation that you clearly know nothing about.
Oh thank god people can drive their car through there more conveniently now 🙏😔 I'm sure future generations will be so gracious for our long term planning & land stewardship
yes, this is the one ans only highway, effectively a mountain pass, to two remote towns on the west coast. Those who frequently have to travel that route very much appreciate the upgrade. Its just a shame that It was the death of 2 workers from perhaps one of the most noble professions to be the final catalyst of an issue thats been on hold many years previously. But you wouldn't know about any of that. You dont live here or even know what Im talking about. Have a good night Mrs
There's no other route that road could take in such a situation, just absolutely had to be routed through a tree that's older than America. I mean what if people who chose to live in the middle of nowhere want the services only a city can provide with no disruptions? Now that's what I call Cost Cutting! 😂
@@RACCOONSQUID it's a mountain pass, on a cliff. One side is a bluff, the other is a lake. And it's not in the middle of nowhere. First Nation's communities have lived there there for thousands of years, not tens or hundreds. And still live there today. Ultimately they oversaw and had the final say over the project.
That looked horrible gently does it ,must have been a big relief to get the tops out 💪
G'day Reg, It appears they're not making it any easier for you but as always you're up to the challenge. PS I watched your latest video and as requested neither liked nor commented, all the best Andrew 👍.
Thanks Andrew. I'm ever grateful for my skills and knowledge in this field. Whatever else is going on, they will never desert me.
